Indonesia and Saudi Arabia Expand Transport Cooperation

Indonesia’s Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi met Saudi Transport and Logistics Minister Saleh bin Nasser Al‑Jasser in Jakarta on 13 July 2026 to reaffirm and broaden bilateral cooperation in transport. Both sides agreed to develop new memoranda of understanding covering safety investigations, maritime, rail and civil aviation technical collaboration. The talks built on the 1988 air‑services agreement, with plans to expand flight operations to additional Indonesian cities such as Yogyakarta and Banda Aceh and to increase scheduled services to Jeddah and Medina, reflecting growing pilgrim traffic. Indonesia will assign a technical team to finalise the proposed MoUs, and seeks Saudi support for its candidacy to join the ICAO Council at the 2026 extraordinary session in Montreal. The ministers highlighted the need for fair, mutually beneficial opportunities for airlines of both countries and for maintaining high service standards and regulatory compliance.
