Indonesia and Thailand Commit to Strengthen Malacca Strait Security

On 4 August 2026, Indonesia’s Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin hosted Thailand’s Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Adul Boonthumjaroen at the Ministry of Defence in Jakarta. The two officials signed a Defense Cooperation Agreement that includes coordinated patrols, joint special‑forces training, and exchange of personnel.

Both sides said the measures aim to preserve stability of the Malacca Strait, a key maritime corridor for global trade, and to enhance broader ASEAN security. The agreement also covers defence industry collaboration and capacity‑building programmes for special‑forces units.
