Super Garuda Shield 2026 begins in Indonesia with 21 nations
The Super Garuda Shield 2026 multinational military exercise has commenced in Indonesia, running from August 31 to September 11. Hosted by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and co-led by the United States Indo-Pacific Command, the exercise involves approximately 4,700 to 5,000 personnel from 21 participating nations.
Training activities are being conducted across multiple Indonesian locations, including Bandung, Lampung, Bataraja, and Kalimantan Utara. The drills cover a wide range of domains, including cyber defense, jungle warfare, airborne operations, amphibious assaults, and maritime maneuvers. Specialized training also includes live-fire exercises with Stinger missiles and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
Beyond combat readiness, the exercise incorporates humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) components. This includes medical civic action programs and engineering projects to support local communities. The exercise aims to strengthen interoperability, tactical readiness, and multilateral cooperation among partner militaries to address the complex security environment in the Indo-Pacific region.
