Indonesia appoints Nanik S. Deyang as head of Badan Gizi Nasional

Nanik S. Deyang was sworn in as the new chief of Indonesia's Badan Gizi Nasional (BGN), succeeding Dadan Hindayana, who was removed and named a suspect in a corruption probe linked to the free nutritious meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis, MBG) program.

Student leader Tiyo Ardianto of BEM UGM criticised the appointment, questioning Deyang's competence given her prior career as a journalist and suggesting her selection was driven by political loyalty rather than expertise. A Gerindra party spokesperson responded by asking whether a journalist could be deemed unqualified for the role.

Conversely, volunteer groups welcomed the change, with Joko Loreng of the Forum Komunikasi Relawan praising Deyang's managerial experience and expressing optimism that the MBG program would see improved quality, greater transparency, and better environmental practices in school canteens.
