Indonesia arrests student in motorbike fraud, youth in gold robbery

Police in Semarang, Central Java, arrested a 23‑year‑old university student who allegedly borrowed motorcycles from friends and junior classmates, then pawned 40 bikes across Central Java for cash totaling about Rp135 million in a single month. Police said the suspect offered rental fees of Rp60 000‑Rp100 000 before immediately pawning the vehicles, stating, "Begitu dapat motor langsung digadaikan. Dapat motor, lempar gadai. Dapat motor lagi, lempar gadai lagi."

In Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, a 28‑year‑old youth was captured after robbing gold jewelry weighing 12 grams, valued at roughly Rp20 million, from a 37‑year‑old housewife. The offender assaulted the victim with a wooden beam, repeatedly striking her head, as investigators reported: "pelaku D ... memukul kepala korban berulang kali, menggunakan balok kayu sepanjang kurang lebih satu meter." He faces charges of violent robbery carrying a maximum sentence of nine years in prison.
