Indonesia automotive sector sees growth in EV, hybrid, and component industries

The Indonesian automotive sector is seeing significant activity across various segments. The Automechanika Jakarta 2026 exhibition is set to debut at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE) PIK 2 from September 24–27. Featuring 339 exhibitors, the event serves as a major gateway to the Indonesian market, with Astra Otoparts Group participating as a strategic partner.

In the electric vehicle (EV) market, Wuling Motors has received the KatadataESG Insight Award 2026 for its national EV production initiatives, noting that its EV lineup now exceeds 40% local content (TKDN). Meanwhile, Motu Technology from China is targeting the Indonesian two-wheel electric vehicle market, supported by government pushes for energy transition. Suzuki is also expanding its footprint with the potential entry of the e-Sky compact electric car.

Consumer trends show a diverse landscape: hybrid vehicle options in the Rp300 million range include models from Toyota, Suzuki, Daihatsu, Chery, and BYD. Additionally, the used car market remains active, with low-cost green cars (LCGC) such as the Datsun GO+ and Suzuki Karimun Wagon R available at various price points, while Chinese brands like BYD are seeing increased availability in the pre-owned market.
