Indonesia begins renovation of 22,379 homes in Papua province
Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian inspected the launch of the Self‑Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) program in Mosso Village, Jayapura, Papua. The initiative will renovate 22,379 houses across the Papua region, including 4,500 homes in Papua Province, as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s effort to assist low‑income communities. Karnavian highlighted that about one‑third of Papua residents live in uninhabitable houses and that regional budgets alone cannot address the problem, calling the central‑government involvement a “major breakthrough.” During the visit he met two beneficiaries whose homes suffered severe damage, and provincial and local officials, including Governor Mathius D. Fakhiri and Jayapura Mayor Abisai Rollo, attended the ceremony.
