Indonesia Boosts Cooperative Sector with Village Cooperative Regulation and Sidoarjo Event

On July 26, 2026, Sidoarjo Regency celebrated the 79th National Cooperative Day with a road‑safety walk, mass exercise, and a low‑price grocery bazaar. The event, opened by Regent Subandi, emphasized the theme “Koperasi Berdaya, Indonesia Berjaya” and highlighted the role of cooperatives in improving local welfare and stabilising essential goods.

The national government is preparing a Presidential Regulation to establish the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (village and sub‑district cooperatives). Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono announced that managers are being trained for placement in newly built warehouses and kiosks, with operations slated to begin in early August. The regulation will define governance, financing, asset management and the distribution of subsidised items such as LPG, cooking oil and fertilizer, and will involve PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara for a two‑year operational support period.
