Indonesia boosts disaster relief: water aid in Kendal, fire response in Sorong

The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in Kendal Regency began distributing clean water to families affected by a prolonged drought. The first delivery supplied 10,000 liters of water to 48 households (about 198 people) in the Pilangsari hamlet of Sidodadi Village, alongside health‑promotion activities on safe water use and hygiene.

In Sorong, West Papua, a forest and land fire broke out near the KM 13 area of Sorong Timur District. Local police deployed about 30 officers and the fire department sent nine firefighters with a fire‑truck. Access to the blaze was difficult, but coordination with residents provided an alternate route. The fire was extinguished, and authorities continue to investigate its cause while urging the public to exercise caution when clearing land.
