Indonesia carbon market potential and INALUM sustainability awards highlighted at ENSIA 2026
At the Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA) 2026, experts and industry leaders highlighted the economic potential of carbon markets in Indonesia. Bonn Choi, a Senior Researcher at the Korea Research Institute on Climate Change, stated that implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement allows countries and businesses to use carbon market mechanisms as tools for both emission reduction and economic value creation.
Indonesia possesses significant emission reduction potential across sectors such as energy, waste management, sustainable agriculture, forestry, and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS/CCUS). To realize this, experts suggest the need for a clear market ecosystem, regulatory certainty, and the integration of various reduction sources into an Emissions Trading System (ETS).
In related recognition of sustainability efforts, PLTA INALUM received eight awards at the ENSIA 2026 event in Bali. The company earned four Platinum awards for categories including emission reduction, water efficiency, hazardous waste management, and waste reduction. Additionally, it received three Silver awards for energy efficiency, biodiversity, and social innovation, reflecting its commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices.
