Indonesia celebrates National Santri Day 2026
Indonesia marked National Santri Day on October 22, 2026, with various commemorative activities across the country. The celebrations, themed “Santri Menguatkan Negeri, Menuju Indonesia Emas” (Santri Strengthening the Nation, Towards Golden Indonesia), honored the historical legacy of the 1945 Jihad Resolution.
At the national level, the Ministry of Religious Affairs announced five strategic programs to support the future of santri (Islamic boarding school students). These initiatives include the SAFESANTRI program for student protection, recognition of pesantren diplomas to improve employment and education opportunities, and programs focused on technological mastery, economic independence, and digital proselytization. The government also highlighted the establishment of the Directorate General of Pesantren via Presidential Regulation No. 18 of 2026.
Regional observances included formal ceremonies at UIN Bandung, Tebuireng in Jombang, and various local government offices. In some areas, such as Jatilawang and Lamongan, communities held Istisqa prayers to seek rain amidst dry weather. Other local activities featured religious processions, traditional arts competitions, and community services, such as Samsat Jombang staff wearing traditional Muslim attire to foster closer ties with the public.
