Indonesia chili prices surge as bird's eye chili hits Rp150,000 per kg
Chili prices in Indonesia have seen a significant increase, with red bird's eye chili (cabai rawit merah) reaching Rp150,000 per kilogram as of October 21, 2026. Green bird's eye chili is also trading high at Rp140,000 per kilogram, while curly red chili prices have reached approximately Rp80,000 per kilogram.
In Sumatra, the Ministry of Agriculture reported high prices at the farmer level, specifically in Solok Regency (Rp70,000/kg), Karo Regency (Rp62,000/kg), and Aceh (nearly Rp60,000/kg). Sudi Mardianto, Director of Vegetables and Medicinal Plants at the Ministry of Agriculture, attributed these price hikes to supply and inter-regional distribution issues.
To manage inflation, the Ministry of Agriculture is coordinating with Bank Indonesia and the National Food Agency (Bapanas) to strengthen food distribution facilitation. National data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) indicated that national curly red chili prices rose by 21.43 percent in October compared to September.
