Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Suspends 833 Meal Kitchens
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) announced on 27 July 2026 that it has permanently suspended 833 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) nationwide after finding extensive violations of operational standards in the Free Meal (MBG) programme. The closures cover 98 kitchens in Sumatra, 424 across Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Bali, NTB, NTT and Papua, and 311 in Java and Madura. All suspended units will no longer receive government payments, a departure from earlier suspensions where kitchens continued to be funded.
In addition to the kitchen closures, BGN terminated 261 non‑civil‑servant staff (224 employees and 37 experts). Nine civil‑servant employees received severe disciplinary sanctions that may lead to dismissal, while 39 others were subject to lighter measures such as demotion or reprimand. BGN head Sudaryono stressed that the action is intended to curb corruption and ensure that the MBG programme meets hygiene, food‑safety and wastewater‑treatment standards.
Sudaryono made the statements at a press conference in Jakarta, emphasizing that the agency will continue internal reforms to prevent future misconduct and to guarantee that the free‑meal program serves its intended beneficiaries without compromising quality or integrity.
