Indonesia classifies ride‑hailing drivers as micro‑enterprise amid commission split debate

Indonesia's Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Maman Abdurrahman, confirmed that the 92% commission share for online‑ride‑hailing drivers (and 8% for the platform) introduced on 1 July 2026 remains in effect. He said reports of reduced driver earnings are linked to school and university holidays rather than the commission policy.

Maman also clarified that designating ojol drivers as UMKM (micro‑enterprise) does not remove platform operators such as Grab and Gojek from their responsibilities, including the provision of the annual Bonus Hari Raya (BHR). The new status will allow drivers to access UMKM benefits such as KUR micro‑finance loans, tax incentives, and other empowerment programmes while maintaining ecosystem duties for all participants.
