Indonesia classifies ride‑hailing drivers as micro‑enterprise, enabling KUR loan access

Indonesia's Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises announced that ride‑hailing (ojol) drivers will be treated as micro‑enterprise entrepreneurs. Minister Maman Abdurrahman said the new status will allow drivers to access the government's Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR) credit scheme, with loan caps of up to Rp500 million and low, subsidised interest rates. Because most drivers earn under Rp500 million annually, they are also expected to qualify for tax exemptions.

The policy will be applied automatically to all drivers registered on the platforms, without requiring them to apply for a Nomor Induk Berusaha (NIB) at the start. Implementation will be coordinated with ride‑hailing companies and driver associations, aiming to help drivers diversify into other businesses while continuing their transport services.
