Indonesia companies KAI Logistik and Pupuk Kujang plant mangroves to protect coasts

KAI Logistik planted 270 mangrove seedlings in Marunda, North Jakarta on 3 July to mark World Mangrove Day. The initiative is part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility programme, aiming to store about 1.5 tonnes of carbon over five years and to support its Green Logistics strategy. The company has been conducting annual mangrove restorations since 2023, with a total of 3,600 seedlings planted in its eastern operations.

PT Pupuk Kujang planted 5,151 mangrove trees along the northern coast of Karawang, West Java, as part of its 51st anniversary celebrations. The effort includes community outreach and the use of locally made sediment‑traps made from recycled tires and bamboo, which have helped the shoreline advance roughly 50 metres seaward and reduce erosion along a 7.8‑kilometre stretch. Both projects aim to stabilise coastlines, enhance biodiversity and contribute to Indonesia’s climate‑change mitigation goals.
