MSCI removes GOTO and CPIN from Global Standard Index
MSCI Inc has announced its August 2026 Index Review, resulting in significant changes for Indonesian equities. Two major companies, PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk (CPIN), have been removed from the MSCI Global Standard Index.
Specifically, GOTO was removed due to liquidity concerns stemming from its stock price remaining at the minimum trading level of 50 IDR since mid-May 2026. CPIN was reclassified from the Global Standard Index to the MSCI Global Small Cap Index. Additionally, nine other Indonesian stocks—ARTO, BUKA, ESSA, FILM, HEAL, KPIG, RATU, SMGR, and TCPI—were removed from the Global Small Cap Index.
Despite these removals, MSCI maintained Indonesia's status within the Emerging Markets category. Analysts suggest these technical adjustments could trigger a passive outflow of up to Rp1 trillion from the Indonesian market as funds rebalance their portfolios. The changes are scheduled to take effect after the close of trading on August 31, 2026.
