Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa outlines fiscal policies and projects
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa addressed several fiscal and policy matters in July 2026. He denied a viral video suggesting he visited an alternative‑medicine clinic in Sukoharjo, stating the footage showed a routine family visit.
He explained that the initial funding for the Indonesia International Financial Center (PFII) will come mainly from private investor Danantara, with the state budget (APBN) only serving as a contingency for operational shortfalls. The Ministry reported a first‑half‑2026 APBN deficit of Rp 196.5 trillion (0.76 % of GDP), up from Rp 180.4 trillion in May.
Purbaya announced a cooperation with the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to develop waste‑to‑value projects, producing fertilizer, building materials and printed‑circuit‑board components. He warned that the Iran‑U.S. conflict could tighten fiscal space if oil prices rise above the government’s $100 per‑barrel assumption.
He confirmed President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to keep the Directorate General of Customs and Excise after recent performance improvements, including the rollout of AI‑based monitoring tools.
The minister said an additional Rp 20 trillion for BPJS Health is ready but awaits a presidential decree before use. He also reaffirmed that incentives for electric‑vehicle purchases will continue, pending coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Danantara. Finally, Purbaya disclosed plans to issue a yuan‑denominated “Panda Bond” in the coming days.
