Indonesia court convicts baby‑trafficking ring, children’s fate in Singapore remains uncertain

An Indonesian court in West Java found 19 members of an organised baby‑trafficking network guilty of procuring at least 34 infants and selling them for adoption, primarily to Singapore. The ring forged birth documents and listed network members as the children’s mothers to obtain official certificates, enabling the illegal adoptions.

At least twelve of the trafficked babies have already been taken to Singapore, where adoptive families now await clarification of the children’s legal status. One Singaporean parent, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "Since the case is concluded, how can we move on and what will happen to our son?" The Indonesian foreign ministry said further examination is needed on the children’s identities and the ongoing Singapore proceedings, reaffirming its commitment to prioritise the children’s best interests.
