Indonesia cuts 240 state‑owned firms and scrutinises deputy‑minister board roles

The Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) regulator announced that 240 BUMN entities will be eliminated by July 2026, with assets consolidated into an integrated management system. Head of the BUMN regulator Dony Oskaria said the move aims to boost efficiency, strengthen corporate governance and generate greater economic value for the country.

Separately, research indicates that 30 Indonesian deputy ministers also sit as commissioners on BUMN boards. Analysts warn that the dual appointments may impede firm performance and conflict with a Supreme Court ruling that bans deputy ministers from serving on state‑owned company boards. The findings highlight ongoing concerns over political interference in BUMN oversight.
