Indonesia declares drought emergencies in Central Java and Yogyakarta districts

The regency of Sleman in Yogyakarta province has issued a formal drought emergency decree after the regent signed the SK Darurat Kekeringan. BPBD Sleman chief Bambang Kuntoro said, "SK Darurat Kekeringan telah diselesaikan dan ditandatangani oleh Bupati Sleman," though the document is still pending final legal processing before it can be circulated. The agency has identified three sub‑districts—Pakem, Tempel and Minggir—as most at risk and has also extended the Level III alert for Mount Merapi.

In Central Java, BPBD Purbalingga reported that ten villages across six districts are already experiencing water shortages. Director Revon Haprindiat listed the affected districts as Karangreja, Karanganyar, Pengadegan, Kejobong, Kemangkon and Rembang, noting that reduced spring flow and unrepaired flood‑damage to water networks have worsened the situation. The agency is delivering clean‑water drops in the villages of Serang and Kutabawa in partnership with the regional water utility Tirta Perwira, while urging residents to conserve water and avoid forest‑fire risks during the dry season.
