Indonesia deepens strategic partnerships with South Korea and Norway

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila. The two agreed to speed up the implementation of their comprehensive strategic partnership, focusing on defence, energy and investment, notably encouraging Korean shipbuilding firms to invest in a new shipyard in Indonesia.

Later in the same meeting, Sugiono held talks with Norway’s foreign minister, Espen Barth Eide. They pledged stronger cooperation on the energy transition, sustainable marine aquaculture and forest monitoring, and highlighted Indonesia’s role in global climate action. Both ministers reaffirmed support for multilateralism and reforms of the United Nations system.
