Indonesia's BMKG Issues Storm Alerts as Cyclone Noul Threatens Heavy Rain and High Seas

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a tropical cyclone warning for Cyclone Noul, which formed east of the Philippines and is expected to move west‑northwest toward Indonesian waters. The agency forecasts that the system could bring heavy rainfall, strong winds and sea heights of 1.25‑2.5 m to the Riau Islands (especially Natuna), northern Kalimantan, and parts of North Sulawesi within the next 24 hours.

In addition, BMKG warned that several major Indonesian cities could experience thunderstorm activity and light to moderate rain on Sunday, 26 July. Areas highlighted for possible thunderstorms include Tanjung Selor in the west, while light rain is expected in Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi and in eastern locations such as Denpasar, Mataram, Mamuju, Palu, Manado and Jayawijaya. The agency urged fishermen, coastal residents and anyone traveling on the sea to stay vigilant, monitor official BMKG updates, and take precautions against the anticipated weather hazards.
