Indonesia develops electric motorcycle subsidies and EV industry growth
The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is finalizing a subsidy scheme for electric motorcycle purchases. Deputy Minister Faisol Riza stated that the government is considering an incentive of Rp3 million per unit, though discussions continue regarding the specific quota for recipients. This policy aims to support the national electric vehicle industry and increase market penetration, which currently remains below 1% of the country's 145 million conventional motorcycles.
As of April 2026, Indonesia's electric motorcycle population reached 242,909 units. In the private sector, PT Sokonindo Automobile has been recognized at the Transportasi Indonesia Award 2026 for its role in the commercial electric vehicle segment. The company, which received the “Pioneer of Indonesia's Commercial Electric Vehicle for National Transportation” award for its DFSK Gelora E, is expanding its strategy to include both commercial and passenger electric vehicles to support sustainable mobility.
