Indonesia discusses teacher welfare and PPPK schemes
Indonesian lawmakers are discussing a new scheme to address teacher shortages in private schools caused by the PPPK (Government Employees with Work Agreements) selection process. Abdul Fikri Faqih of Commission X of the DPR RI stated that the commission is formulating a mechanism to allow private school teachers who pass the PPPK selection to continue teaching at their original private institutions while having their welfare guaranteed by the state.
Additionally, Commission X is pushing for approximately 230,000 part-time PPPK teachers to be transitioned into full-time status.
Separately, the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel has announced an updated schedule for the 2026 Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program for prospective teachers (Wave 2). The revised timeline includes participant designation on October 2, 2026, online self-reporting from November 17–21, 2026, and the commencement of the first semester of lectures on December 9, 2026.
