Indonesia drought relief: Water distributed in Malang and Klaten
Regional authorities in Indonesia are distributing clean water to combat drought conditions affecting multiple areas.
In Malang Regency, East Java, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) distributed 155,000 liters of clean water between August 8 and August 17, 2026. The aid reached 2,224 households, totaling 7,606 people, across the villages of Sumberagung in Sumbermanjing Wetan District and Tumpak Rejo in Gedangan District.
In Klaten Regency, drought driven by the El Nino phenomenon has impacted four villages in the Kemalang District, located on the slopes of Mount Merapi. Since June 15, 2026, a total of 548 water tanks—equivalent to 2,736,000 liters—have been delivered to 3,848 households, benefiting 12,846 residents. This distribution effort involves BPBD Klaten, BBWS Bengawan Solo, and the NGO Tanah Air Lestari.
