East Nusa Tenggara earthquake death toll reaches 100

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the East Nusa Tenggara province on August 15, 2026, has resulted in at least 100 deaths and over 1,600 injuries. The disaster has displaced approximately 180,000 people and damaged or destroyed more than 73,000 homes and 1,915 public facilities.

Recovery and relief efforts are ongoing. The Ministry of Public Works is addressing 94 damaged road and bridge points to maintain logistics, while providing clean water to thousands of evacuees in Sikka. Bulog is managing food security by moving rice stocks from 12 damaged warehouses to temporary tents. The government has also pledged free replacement of lost identity documents for victims.

Geological concerns remain as the Badan Geologi reported a 100-meter crack at the rim of Mount Kelimutu's crater. Meanwhile, thousands of aftershocks continue to affect the region, with the BNPB warning that seismic activity may persist for several weeks.
