Indonesia Economic Census 2026 faces staff resignations and calls for participation
The 2026 Economic Census is currently underway in Indonesia, facing both logistical challenges and calls for public cooperation. In Jombang, 13 census officers have resigned from the program. According to Mouna Sri Wahyuni, Head of BPS Jombang, five individuals resigned following training, while eight had already begun field operations. Reasons for the resignations include heavy workloads and some officers securing new employment.
To ensure the success of the census, which occurs every ten years, BP Batam is urging business owners in Batam to participate actively. Ariastuty Sirait, Deputy for Public Services at BP Batam, emphasized that data confidentiality is legally protected under Law Number 16 of 1997. The census aims to provide a foundational economic database for national development planning and policy formulation.
