Indonesia Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti tackles low enrollment and pushes ASRI school culture

Minister of Education and Culture Abdul Mu'ti said the Ministry is mapping enrollment data after a public primary school in Semarang (SDN Purwoyoso 01) attracted only three new students for the 2026/27 school year. He announced coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs to draft policies for schools with very few pupils, noting that schools with fewer than 100 or even 60 students are under review.

Mu'ti also addressed students at Santo Fransiskus Jakarta during an MPLS event, urging them to adopt the ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik, Indah – safe, healthy, clean, beautiful) school culture promoted by the President. He highlighted a new ministerial regulation supporting the initiative, called for broader stakeholder participation, and stressed that private schools will receive the same infrastructure revitalisation support as public schools.
