Indonesia Food Prices Fall as Government Stabilizes Egg Market
On 20 July 2026, data from the Bank Indonesia PIHPS showed a sharp decline in key food commodities: large red chili fell 44.9% to Rp27,000 per kg, green bird‑eye chilli down 42%, onion prices dropped about a third, and rice prices slipped up to 9% across categories. Prices for meat, cooking oil and other items also eased.
The government, through the National Agency of Food (Bapanas), said it will intervene to keep egg prices within an acceptable range. After a recent dip to roughly Rp15,000 per kg at farm level, egg prices have risen to Rp22,000‑23,000 per kg, though the official reference price is Rp24,000‑25,000 per kg.
Market reports from Jakarta’s Pasar Rumput confirm that egg prices are now around Rp28,000 per kg, and chicken prices have returned to normal levels of Rp30,000‑50,000 per bird as schools resume and the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program restarts. Vendors quoted the price recovery as a sign that the stabilization measures are taking effect.
