Indonesia electric vehicle and public transport developments

Indonesia is seeing various developments in the electric vehicle (EV) and public transportation sectors. The Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) has urged the government to shift its incentive focus toward electric buses. While current policies offer VAT reductions for electric buses with at least 40 percent local content, MTI advisor Djoko Setijowarno notes that high prices remain a barrier for local governments. He argues that prioritizing public electric transport offers greater social equity and can effectively reduce congestion by replacing dozens of motorcycles with a single bus.

In Jakarta, the TransJakarta bus network has expanded to 258 stops, a 12 percent increase from the previous year. East Jakarta currently holds the highest number of stops with 68, followed by South Jakarta with 65.

In the private sector, OMOWAY has expanded its presence in Indonesia with over 20 operational 3S dealers. The company is promoting its OMO-X smart electric motorcycle, which features advanced technology such as dual-channel ABS, traction control, and a 10.25-inch smart cockpit.
