Indonesia emphasizes food security in Prabowo's economic transformation

Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono told a national working meeting of the Indonesia Raya Christian Movement (GEKIRA) in Jakarta on June 12 that food security is the cornerstone of President Prabowo Subianto’s economic transformation agenda. He said the sector directly impacts welfare, stability and national sovereignty, noting that “food security is not only about producing rice or agricultural commodities. It is about national sovereignty.”

Sudaryono outlined government steps to strengthen food security, including raising agricultural output, optimising land use, modernising farming practices and expanding irrigation infrastructure. He also highlighted anti‑corruption reforms aimed at curbing budget irregularities, over‑invoicing and transfer‑pricing, adding that “when the government improves the system and closes loopholes for malpractice, some parties will naturally feel affected.” The minister urged GEKIRA members to help communicate these policies to the public and stressed the administration’s commitment to serving the public interest.

The remarks reflect a broader push to align Indonesia’s agricultural strategy with the administration’s goal of self‑reliance and economic growth.
