Indonesia Enacts Major Police Reform Law

Indonesia's lower house approved a comprehensive amendment to the Police Law (UU Polri) on 9 June 2026, introducing seven substantive changes aimed at modernising the force. The reforms emphasise greater transparency, professionalisation, use of modern information technology for oversight, and stronger internal and external monitoring mechanisms.

The drafting process incorporated extensive public input, with twelve regional hearings across twelve provinces, contributions from fifteen experts, various community groups, and university students. Lawmakers received 124 written submissions, and sixteen legal scholars were consulted to shape the final text.
