Indonesia ensures chili and rice supplies remain stable through 2027
Indonesian authorities have confirmed that national food supplies, specifically chili and rice, are sufficient heading into the 2026 Christmas and New Year period.
The National Food Agency (Bapanas) is focusing on maintaining smooth distribution channels, particularly via sea routes, to prevent price spikes caused by logistical bottlenecks. To mitigate inflation, Bapanas is utilizing the Food Distribution Facilitation (FDP) program to move surplus supplies to high-demand areas. Currently, approximately 30.5% of the FDP budget remains available to assist regions experiencing extreme price increases.
Simultaneously, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that national rice stocks are secure. Government rice reserves held by Bulog have reached approximately 4.5 million tons. When combined with standing crops and existing stocks in the hospitality sector, total availability is estimated at 25 million tons. Given a monthly national requirement of 2.5 million tons, officials project that rice supplies will remain sufficient until July or August 2027.
