Indonesia expands AI literacy through student and teacher training

Various initiatives are underway in Indonesia to increase digital literacy and Artificial Intelligence (AI) comprehension among students and educators.

In Sidoarjo, the Polresta Sidoarjo police force provided basic AI education to students at SMAN 2 Sidoarjo. The program aimed to teach students how to use AI ethically and responsibly, emphasizing its use as a tool for learning and creativity rather than a means for academic dishonesty. The training also focused on digital literacy, helping students distinguish between factual information and hoaxes on social media.

In Sorong Regency, 113 teachers participated in the ‘AI Goes To School’ training held at SMK Negeri 1 Kabupaten Sorong. This program, initiated by MAFINDO and supported by organizations including Google.org, the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is part of a national effort to train 10,000 teachers across 40 cities. The training covers AI technology, ethical usage, prompt management, and interaction with Large Language Models to assist with classroom management and administrative tasks.
