Indonesia advances AI in higher education, judiciary and ICT

Overview

Since the July 2026 launch, Indonesia’s AI agenda has focused on sovereignty, domestic semiconductor capacity, and the joint use of AI and blockchain to protect trade. At the National Law Forum, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria noted that while AI can streamline judicial administration—citing the Supreme Court’s use of ‘smart panels’—it must not act as the final decision-maker. This technological shift is placing unprecedented pressure on connectivity, with Telkom Indonesia reporting that AI-driven bandwidth demand is growing 10 to 20 times faster than previous levels.
