Indonesia expands Biosolar B50 fuel distribution to 590 stations in Sulawesi
Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sulawesi has increased the availability of Biosolar B50, a 50% biodiesel blend, to 590 public fuel stations across six Sulawesi provinces. The rollout includes 280 stations in South Sulawesi, 102 in Southeast Sulawesi, 76 in Central Sulawesi, 71 in North Sulawesi, 35 in West Sulawesi, and 26 in Gorontalo, with further expansion planned as terminals become ready.
University of Muhammadiyah Malang automotive expert Dr. Yepy Komaril Sofi’i warned that the new fuel poses technical challenges for older diesel engines, citing higher viscosity, strong solvent action that can dislodge tank deposits, and hygroscopic properties that introduce water and corrosion. He recommended accelerated fuel‑filter replacement and upgrading rubber seals to prevent leaks, emphasizing the need for owners to adapt maintenance schedules to the fuel shift.
