Indonesia expands digital learning, boosts internet and electricity for schools in remote 3T regions
The Indonesian government announced plans to strengthen digital learning in underdeveloped, frontier and outermost (3T) regions in 2026. After the program reached 288,865 education units nationwide, it will focus on improving electricity and internet infrastructure to support the devices already distributed.
To date, digital interactive boards, laptops and external hard disks have been supplied to schools, with internet access provided to 8,265 units and electricity support to 2,389. In the 3T areas the program has reached 13,838 schools, providing electricity to 49 schools, internet to 4,316 schools and 30,285 laptops and hard disks. Teacher training has involved 33,156 educators and 2,856 digital learning contents have been developed.
Muhammad Qodari, head of the Government Communications Agency, said, "This program has reached hundreds of thousands of educational units throughout Indonesia." He added that the next phase will continue supplying interactive boards, optimizing school assistance and creating specialized digital content, while addressing bottlenecks such as limited power, unstable connectivity and geographic challenges. Evaluations show 99.5% of students find the digital boards more engaging and 98% feel they understand the material better.
