Indonesia expands disaster preparedness training for nursing students and teachers

At Universitas Muhammadiyah Magelang, 40 fourth‑year nursing students participated in a simulated earthquake response on 1 July. Under faculty supervision they practiced triage, evacuation and trauma‑healing procedures, applying disaster‑management theory in a practical setting for the first time.

The Faculty of Public Health at Universitas Indonesia later held a K3 fire‑safety and emergency‑preparedness workshop for 45 teachers at SMPN 107 in Jakarta. Funded by the Ministry of Education, the program aims to build a safety culture and enhance teachers’ capacity to manage fire‑related emergencies in schools.

Both initiatives seek to improve emergency readiness among future health professionals and school staff, strengthening Indonesia’s overall disaster‑response capabilities.
