Indonesia expands ferry discounts and cracks down on dollar use at ports

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) announced a programme that will waive up to 100 percent of port service fees on seven major ferry routes, including Merak–Bakauheni and Ketapang–Gilimanuk, for trips scheduled between 20 June and 5 July 2026. The discount, equivalent to an average 21.9 percent reduction of the total ticket price, is presented as a stimulus measure to boost mobility during the school‑holiday period.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa warned that every transaction at Indonesian ports must be conducted in the national rupiah and said officials will act against any use of US dollars. During a visit to Tanjung Priok, he also reported that more than 3,100 containers are stacked at the terminal, creating congestion that threatens the smooth flow of logistics and raw‑material supplies.
