Indonesia expands housing aid to 10,000 Sekolah Rakyat families
The Indonesian government announced that 10,000 families of students enrolled in the "Sekolah Rakyat" program will receive house‑renovation assistance in 2026. The aid, provided through the Bantuan Stimulan Perumahan Swadaya (BSPS) scheme, amounts to Rp20 million per household—Rp17.5 million for building materials and Rp2.5 million for labor. Verification of applicants is underway, focusing on clear land ownership and adequate housing conditions.
The rollout follows a sharp increase from 1,000 beneficiaries in 2025 and aligns with Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2025 aimed at eradicating extreme poverty. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf said, "Sekolah Rakyat becomes a centre of empowerment where the child studies, while the parents are supported by strategic presidential programs, including house renovation." PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait added, "The President prioritises housing by significantly boosting the budget for house‑renovation for people who already own a home but need it to be livable." The program supports a growing student body, rising from 15,000 in the 2025‑26 school year to 32,000 in 2026‑27.
