Indonesia expands mangrove restoration in Banten and Riau

In Tangerang, Banten, PT Patra Jasa planted 1,000 mangrove seedlings on the KSS beach in Sukawali village as part of its corporate social and environmental responsibility program. Director of Finance and General Affairs Kurnia Pinayungan said the planting aims to strengthen coastal protection against erosion, support local fisheries and contribute to climate‑change mitigation.

In Teluk Pambang, Bengkalis, Riau, the Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN) completed a five‑year restoration of mangrove forests along the Kembung River. YKAN coordinator Fadil Nandila highlighted the success of community involvement, monitoring and the creation of livelihood opportunities such as women‑run mangrove‑based culinary businesses, honey production, crab farming and eco‑tourism. The program seeks to combine ecological recovery with sustainable economic benefits for the local population.
