Indonesia expands student mobility with EU scholarships and university outreach program

Indonesia will see 90 students enroll in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's programme for the 2026 academic year, with 78 receiving full EU scholarships. EU Ambassador to Indonesia Denis Chaibi highlighted the scheme as part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, aiming to strengthen innovation, green and digital transformation, and deepen Indonesia‑EU ties. Scholarship recipient Almira Rahma, a geospatial officer from East Kalimantan, said the funding will support academic growth and international collaboration.

At the same time, 16,000 students from Universitas Negeri Surajah (Unesa) are set to begin a four‑month community‑impact mobilisation programme. The launch, attended by Vice Minister of Higher Education Fauzan and Unesa Rector Nurhasan, will place students in nine activity tracks across partner organisations, including industry placements, to address real‑world social and economic challenges. Local officials welcomed the initiative as a way to harness youthful talent for regional development.
