Indonesia expects widespread light rain and thunderstorms across major cities this weekend
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reports that on Friday, 19 June 2026, most districts in Papua Barat Daya will be cloudy, including Sorong, Sorong Selatan, Raja Ampat, Maybrat and Kota Sorong, while Tambrauw will experience hazy air. Temperatures are expected between 24 °C and 30 °C, with clear conditions recorded in Sorong district at 09:21 WIT.
For the coming weekend, BMKG forecasts light rain for a majority of Indonesia’s major cities – such as Medan, Jakarta, Surabaya, Semarang and many others – and notes a risk of thunderstorms in Pekanbaru, Pontianak and Tanjung Selor, as well as possible thunder in Bandar Lampung. Additional weather patterns include moderate rain in Mamuju, cloudiness in Denpasar and Makassar, and haze in Jayawijaya.
