Indonesia experiences two earthquakes on July 9, 2026

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, Indonesia recorded two separate tremors. A magnitude 3.5 quake struck Pasaman Barat in West Sumatra at 17:02 WIB, with a shallow depth of 9 km and an epicenter about 118 km southwest of the district. No damage or casualties were reported.

Later that morning, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake occurred off the coast of Polewali Mandar in West Sulawesi at 09:09 WITA. The hypocenter was 13 km deep, roughly 50 km south of the district. Shaking was felt over a wide area, reaching cities such as Makassar, Parepare and parts of South Sulawesi with intensity levels of III–IV on the Modified Mercalli scale. Authorities urged residents to remain calm and stay alert for possible aftershocks.
