Indonesia explores U.S. labor market expansion for migrant workers

The Indonesian Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (KP2MI) is exploring the expansion of labor markets for Indonesian migrant workers into the United States. Vice Minister Christina Aryani stated that the ministry is coordinating with Indonesian diplomatic representatives in the U.S. to identify job opportunities and understand local labor regulations. Key focus areas include verifying job orders and addressing visa requirements to ensure worker protection.

In terms of current placement trends, Taiwan remains a primary destination for Indonesian workers. Data from the first half of 2026 shows that 48,558 workers, or approximately 32 percent of total placements, were sent to Taiwan. This high concentration highlights a growing need for digital banking and financial management services to support remittances and personal savings.

Separately, KP2MI has suspended the operations of PT Duta Fadalima in Jakarta following violations of recruitment procedures. The company was found to have placed workers in the Middle East without proper permits or through the official computerized protection system. The company is now required to submit lists of previously placed workers and commit to future compliance.
