Indonesia faces Oman in Jakarta friendly after 38‑year win drought

Indonesia’s national football team will host Oman at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on 5 June 2026. The match marks the first opportunity for the Garuda side to break a 38‑year spell without a win over the Omani team, having lost the last encounter in 2021.

Coach John Herdman stressed the game is more than a friendly, saying, “We have never beaten Oman in 38 years, and that is the challenge,” and urged supporters to fill the stadium. Oman will debut new coach Tariq Sektioui, who added, “We will try to extend the period.” Both sides come off recent eliminations from the 2026 World Cup qualification process and view the fixture as a test of their Asian competitiveness.
