Indonesia faces mixed weather conditions and drought relief efforts

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued forecasts for much of Indonesia indicating mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies on July 22‑24, 2026, with localized light rain in several provinces. In Maluku, most areas were expected to be clear or partly cloudy, while the southern part of Bengkulu faced a mix of sunshine, clouds and light rain. Yogyakarta and surrounding districts were forecasted to be largely clear, though isolated showers were possible in Samigaluh and Cangkringan. In Sorong, strong winds were warned to persist through July, raising fire‑risk concerns and prompting advisories for fishermen. Jawa Tengah and Semarang were expected to be sunny to cloudy with heat‑related fire warnings and moderate sea‑state conditions. Jakarta’s capital region was predicted to have mostly clear skies with occasional light rain in the Thousand Islands and South Jakarta. Across Sumatra, BMKG warned of scattered light rain and possible thunderstorms. A nationwide bulletin highlighted that several major cities could see light to moderate rain, with heightened fire and flood risks in many areas.

In response to the ongoing drought in West Java, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) dispatched clean‑water tanks to Bogor district, delivering a total of 15,300 liters to the villages of Hambalang, Gadog, and Sukajaya to alleviate water shortages for more than 55,000 residents.
