Indonesia Finance Minister Purbaya Announces New Plan to Speed Disaster Funds for Sumatra

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the government will adopt a new approach to accelerate the disbursement of the disaster relief budget for Sumatra. The method involves routine follow‑up of reports from ministries and agencies, targeting the frequent problem of incomplete documentation that has delayed fund absorption.

The ministry has set aside Rp 60 trillion from efficiency savings for post‑disaster recovery in Sumatra, yet the amount has not been fully utilized. Purbaya expects the new mechanism to hasten the release of the funds, supporting ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. A parliamentary coordination meeting was held to discuss the strategy and next steps for the Sumatra disaster response.
