Indonesia Finance Minister Purbaya Says Merah Putih Bond Not Mandatory, Offers Incentives

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa clarified that there is no regulation requiring wealthy Indonesians to purchase the Merah Putih Bond. He said the president has never mandated such a purchase and refuted circulating rumors that individuals with assets above Rp30 billion must buy the bond.

Purbaya explained that the government will instead provide incentives to attract investors to the Merah Putih Bond, which will be issued together with a Patriot Bond by the Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara). The issuance is enabled by the revised Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (P2SK), which authorises BPI Danantara to create special debt instruments to mobilise capital amid global economic uncertainty.
